Ready to pay over £££'s for Microsoft's latest Office Suite ? No ? Then why not give an open source solution a try. A very capable suite of applications and all with a very similar feel to Bill's package. Its free, so try it out. www.openoffice.org

Firefox

Treat yourself to a proper browser that respects web standards and wont let in every possible bug through the net! With built in web feeds, live search, spellcheck, and more importantly features that protect you against pop-up's, phishing, and spyware. Can be run along side other browsers if you wish.

PClinuxOS

Argueably one of the easiest to use linux distributions yet, along with Ubuntu, and with the beryl plugin offers a fantastic workspace. Uses a lot less resources than other lesser operating systems and of course its free! Have a look >>

Gimp

Another excellent open source application, this time in the form of a photo editing suite similar to photo shop and used for tasks such as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. Well worth a try. www.gimp.org
